Colin Binns

My work is about capturing the immediacy of a moment in time and place, drawn from explorations of place and recollections of personal experiences and events.

The painting and drawing process that brings these moments back to life develops initially from memories, photographs and sketch studies gathered on location. These are often a prelude to writing, drawing, and collection of ephemera to form the essential material for the painting and drawing process.

My paintings eventually evolve as emotive responses to events through semi abstract compositions of colour, texture and expressive mark making. The mixed media drawings, in contrast, are more graphic reconstructions of layered montages and multiple viewpoints, mirroring the way our brain combines different images in creating our memories.'
